The construction work on the new Paediatric Ward in Loul Sessène, Senegal, has officially been completed. The doors have been installed and the plaque is already hanging at the entrance of the building, a tangible sign of a project nearing its final milestone.
The construction site, launched to address the complete absence of paediatric wards in an area with over 27,500 inhabitants, marks a fundamental step towards an integrated maternal and child health hub at the Near Me hospital, which already has an active maternity ward and a Nutritional Rehabilitation and Education Centre.
With the building work now complete, the project moves into a new phase: equipping the rooms with the necessary medical supplies, ahead of the official inauguration. Once this process is complete, the facility will be able to provide timely, safe, and accessible care to all children in the area, offering a specialised environment to prevent and treat malnutrition and monitor children's growth.
