In the past few weeks, the tiling work on the ground of the Port of Joal has been completed. This was achieved through the involvement of a team of young workers from Joal-Fadiouth, thereby increasing community participation and direct engagement, while also supporting the local economy.
Therefore, the tiling of five areas of the port was finalized, providing aisles to allow transporters to hurry with crates on their heads without slipping and reducing contamination from the shoes of people passing through.
The tiling replaces the previous earth floor where fresh fish was laid out waiting to be sold. This significant improvement to the port's infrastructure has a substantial impact on the quality of the fish marketed and, consequently, on the nutritional intake of the local populations. It reduces the risk of product contamination and the transmission of diseases.
Working to improve food quality has a direct impact on the diets of the involved communities and helps reduce food insecurity and malnutrition; this is NutriAid's commitment.
